PC-Help or Geek Squad Which one is best
PC-Help or Geek Squad – Reviews
Most of the online information about the geek squad isn’t on google because they don’t care. Instead you will find most people discussing them here Here are a few specific reviews to check out: One, Two, Three, Four, Five
How the service is done
PC-Help does all service in house and you can actually talk to the people who are working on your equipment. The PC-Help employees have been with the company at least 5 years and have at least 10 years of experience working on computers.
Geek Squad sends off most if not all repairs to a central location and you are left with an online portal and an 800 number to call. You are totally at their mercy. Hope it doesn’t get lost in the mail or in the central location mail room… Who knows which intern will be working on your system at the central location….
Turn Around time
PC-Help completes most repairs in 3 days or less. Obviously there are some things that are more difficult or require parts that sometimes take time to get but those are the exception not the rule.
Geek Squad has a normally turn around of 2 weeks and their exceptions are significantly longer think months.
Warranty Service
PC-Help provides warranty for everything we do. We want you to be happy and say happy things about us. Every single customer matters to a small business like PC-Help. Our warranty issues (yes we have them we aren’t perfect) go to the head of the line and we do our best to get the issues resolved as quickly as possible.
While we know they offer warranty you can feel assured it will have to be sent off again to get it.
Price
Most PC-Help repairs cost between $50 and $150 (probably 95%) unless they require parts. Can you bring your own parts? Yes you can. The only caveat is if there is a problem with the hardware you provided our warranty only covers problems with our labor. We also offer a 1 year service plan that covers any issues you might have for $180 (it can only be purchased for a working computer). Subsequent years are only $150. We have a Diagnostic fee of $49.99 but you only pay that in circumstances where we are able to repair your computer but you decide not to once the work of the diagnostic is complete and pick up your computer. You don’t have to pay until you pick up your system so if you decide not to repair it we will recycle it and you don’t have to spend money on something that doesn’t work. It’s the fairest way we can determine. Once the diagnostic is complete we will give you a firm quote to approve or deny.
Geek Squad pricing is confusing and there is lots of fine print. They say they have a flat rate labor charge of $84.95 for physical damage but according to the fine print nothing is set until you get a call from geek squad city in Kentucky. Say you don’t want to spend that much you are out $85 (in most if not all cases) and still have to wait several days to get your system back. Very little is published about their pricing they do say a Virus removal is $150 and a data backup or transfer is $99.99 (in-store) & $149.99 (in-home).
Who is working on your system?
The only way you will know who from Best Buy is working on your system is if they come to your house and you watch them. Probably an expensive option because Best Buy doesn’t publish prices for almost any in-home services. We have seen reports of home service geeks showing up and it costing $250 for them to tell you they can’t fix it.
With PC-Help we only have a small staff that works together as a team. We document what we do on your system and you are always welcome to speak directly to the technician who performed any work. You will probably speak to them when you drop off and pickup your system as well. If there is a problem that you can’t resolve in the store you can email [email protected] which is monitored by the owner and Shane will review any situation that you don’t feel was handled appropriately.

I've had to use several computer repair shops in MidCities area over the years. Both big box stores and independents. This is the first time I felt like I got what I paid for - quick service, a job well done, and polite, professionalism. No one wants to have a broken computer, but at least now I have a company with great staff, Brian and Jarrett, who can take care of it. We will absolutely use them again!
