Are they a Squad of Geeks or salesmen in disguise?

November 3rd, 2008

PC-Help is all about personalized service.  On a recent service call we were requested to move all the data
from an old computer to a new computer that the owner had to
buy, because the owner had been informed the old one was no longer working.  During our PC-Help expert technicians time with the customer and in the process of moving the data we reviewed the old computer to find it only needed a video card to be
working correctly.  So our ultimate diagnosis was that  the “Geek Squad” sold the customer a
computer instead of providing the service that was needed.  They told the customer that their old computer couldn’t be fixed in order to sell a new computer.  While some customers might rather buy a new $800 computer than a $49 part we believe that it should be the customer who makes that decision.  We shouldn’t be making the decision for the customer based on what is best for our business.  Computer service/Customer service is not about the biggest or the fastest or
the most expensive, it is about personalized service matching the
computer/service to the needs of the customer.  Since not all customers would have decided to save some money by calling us or some other reputable service in to finish the job we wonder how many times these big box stores get away with this kind of behavior…
